YOUNG people in Hillingdon who aspire to succeed in sport, culture or their education are invited to apply for the next round of funding from the Tashan Daniel bursary scheme.
It’s open to all borough residents up to 21. They can apply for council funding for sports equipment, qualifications in art and culture, vocational courses and sports training and competition opportunities.
The bursary was created as a lasting memorial to Tashan Daniel, who died aged 20 following an unprovoked attack at Hillingdon Underground station in September 2019.
Young people can receive support to the maximum value of £2,000 per person, per year, and applications will be assessed by a panel, including a member of the Daniel family.
James Barnes, 14, of West Drayton, was awarded £1,012 to help him pursue his BMX racing dreams. He will be racing for Hillingdon in the London Youth Games this Sunday (3).
Cllr Jane Palmer, Hillingdon Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said:
“Tashan loved sports and was a passionate sprinter, with dreams of competing in the Olympic Games one day.
“Now, in his memory, talented young people will have the chance to get genuine support that could prove a vital stepping-stone in helping them achieve their own dreams.”
