PEOPLE in Hillingdon have helped raise £30,000 for Harlington Hospice, which provides care for those living with life-limiting illnesses.
Over the past two years, residents have donated thousands of items to the Waste Weekend Charity Shop, located in West Drayton, run on behalf of the council by waste management firm Powerday.
The shop first opened in 2020 and has since become the place for residents to donate household items with a resale value.
Staffed by volunteers from the Powerday team, the shop is open every weekend for the sale and donation of everything from golf clubs and bicycles to toys and pianos.
On Saturday (1), the Mayor of Hillingdon, Cllr Becky Haggar, presented a cheque for £20,000 to the hospice, bringing the running total raised to £30,000.
Linda Moore, Interim Director of Fundraising at Harlington Hospice, said: “The incredible support we’ve received from the Waste Weekend charity shop means so much to [us].”
John Mckenna, of Powerday, who runs the Waste Weekend, added: “We try at all costs to recycle as much waste as possible, ensuring we divert everything from landfill.”
