Thirsk Yarnbombers have struck again, creating a wonderful Christmas display for residents and visitors to enjoy.

From adorable penguins dressed for the cold, to cheeky elves and Father Christmas himself, the Yarnbombers have once again pulled out all the stops to create a festive wonderland in Thirsk town centre.

Bollards across the town centre have been brightly decorated with crocheted tableaus and the group's Christmas tree is once again up Thirsk Hall.

A second brightly coloured Christmas tree has also been placed on White Mare roundabout, created with lots of odd bits of wool.

Irene Marwood, chair of the Yarnbombers said: "There's about 30 idividual displays this year and of course the Christmas tree at Thirsk Hall.

"We haven't been able to work on it for very long this year as we did a lot of extra things for the Remembrance Day display and we've also been very busy with our charitable work.

"But it is certainly more elaborate this year, likewise with the Remembrance display and we've been getting lots of nice comments from people about it."

The group has also been busy knitting and crocheting lots of small Christmas Tree decorations which are on sale in various shops around the town.

They are available to buy for a minimum £2 donation with all funds raised going to the group's chosen charity - the Charlie Dallas Lancaster Foundation (CDLF).

The charity was set up in memory of York entrepreneur Charlie Dallas who died in 2020 aged just 36 after a long battle with his mental health.

The Yarnbombers held a fundraising sale for the charity in Thirsk Market Square on Saturday and Irene said that many people went along who knew Charlie or who had similar experiences in their family.

Irene said: "It is a local charity and our stall prompted a lot of discussions about mental health which is something that we really wanted to do.

"It's been very well supported."

The decorations are onsale at the following shops; There She Glows, Coorie No. 2, The Pantry, The Garden Centre, Towlers, Bliss cafe, The Leisure Centre and Watkins Wright.

The town centre display will be staying up until January 8.
