FOUR fire engines and around 25 crew tackled a blaze at a bungalow in High Road, Ickenham.

Half of the ground floor was damaged and the roof was completely destroyed. There were no injuries reported.

The cause is unknown at this stage, but the home had no working smoke alarms.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said:: “This incident is a timely reminder about the importance of having smoke alarms in your home. Not having working alarms leaves you and your loved ones at risk.

“As a minimum, you should have alarms on every floor - in the hallways and the rooms you use the most, plus a heat alarm in the bathroom and kitchen.”

The brigade was called at 9.48am and the fire was under control an hour later. Crews from Hillingdon, Ruislip, Harrow and Northolt attended.
