Fans will be able to get closer to the action than ever at the 2024 European Athletics Championships, as the medal ceremonies set to take place by the Fontana della Sfera, outside the Stadio Olimpico.

As part of the free-to-access Roma 2024 Fan Village, medal ceremonies will take place twice a day, once at 6pm and once at 11pm, with only the half marathon ceremonies to take place inside the stadium.

Fans do not need a ticket to gain access to the Fan Village, which has been renovated by Sport e Salute.

It is part of a number of upgrades that has been made to the iconic venue of the Stadio Olimpico and its surrounding areas, including the Stadio dei Marmi which has been improved for its role as the warm-up area for athletes.

The Stadio dei Marmi is another iconic venue, with the track lined by typically Roman statues.

The Fontana della Sfera - or Sphere Fountain - has also been renovated and will be a working fountain once again for the Championships. It sits at the centre of the Fan Village, which will be open from 9am to 12am every day.

The Village spans over 800 square metres and includes a range of food and beverage outlets as well as other retail opportunities and also includes a dedicated area for athletes and fans alike to get active and try out different sporting disciplines.

The Fan Village will also play host to singer Grace Davies on the final night of the Championships, when she will perform the official song of the Championships - ‘Illuminate’- on two occasions as well as performing another of her songs ‘Roots’ ahead of the handover to 2026 hosts Birmingham.

Lancashire-born Davies penned the song herself and hopes the tune can inspire all the athletes competing.

She said: "I was so flattered to have been approached to provide the official song for the European Athletics Championships, not only as an artist but also as a writer.

"There is a huge amount of trust there and it is a real privilege to be granted such a massive opportunity.

"I hope we have made something that is going to inspire the thousands of athletes competing and narrate their experience through the good and the bad - something I can relate to.

"I have a busy year of releases ahead, and this is a spectacular way to kick things off.

"I feel very lucky and can't wait to hear this song soundtrack such an inspiring event across Europe and beyond."
