FOR its next performance, the Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra invites you to summer concert of classical favourites TOMORROW (Saturday, 22).

The programme will include Rodrigo’s stunning Concierto de Aranjuez, for which soloist Emanuele Addis will join the orchestra.

Born in Sassari, Italy Addis began his classical guitar training at the age of 14 and went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music.

He has since given solo recitals throughout Europe and won many prizes at international competitions.

Known as the most famous piece of classical music to come from Spain, Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez remains a popular favourite with listeners.

Its use in the 1996 film Brassed Off!, (where the miners referred to it as Orange Juice to help with their difficulty in pronouncing ‘Aranjuez’!) ensured love for the concerto became even more widespread.

The concert will also include Debussy’s Prélude à l’Après-Midi d’un Faune, Delius’ Walk to the Paradise Garden and Smetana’s symphonic poem Vltava, along with Wagner’s Overture to The Flying Dutchman.

Hillingdon Philharmonic has more than 60 registered members. In addition to countless concerts at venues throughout Hillingdon, the group has also performed at some of London’s most prestigious venues including the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Southwark Cathedral.

The Summer Concert will be led by Lucy Cumming and conducted by the founder of the Orchestra, Peter J. Williams.
