Mayor of London Ken Livingstone speaks to Times readers about his love for our city.

"THERE can only have been a few more tremendous celebrations in living memory than the extraordinary scenes a fortnight ago when the streets were lined and Trafalgar Square packed with thousands of people celebrating our fantastic Ashes victory.

In the same square the previous week, albeit under rain clouds that we'd wished had visited the Oval for five days, I unveiled the new statue to occupy the fourth plinth Alison Lapper Pregnant an immensely powerful work of art that has already provoked intense reactions, the vast majority being extremely positive.

For me, these two events evoke the extraordinary vitality and diversity of Londoners and of what London has to offer.

We launched the Everyone's London campaign in light of the events of July 7 and 21, to support the West End and encourage people to enjoy the best that central London has to offer. This Saturday sees the first ever Oxford Street festival, Celebrate Oxford Street, Dress to Impress, bringing fashion, music and celebrities together for a unique day of fun in this world famous shopping destination. But although September has seen the main focus of our efforts, there will be fantastic deals available at our theatres, restaurants, galleries, museums and other top attractions throughout the autumn and winter. All you need do is turn up at one of the many participating venues and present your Oyster card or a valid tube or bus ticket.

It's been a challenging time for London and I would like to take this opportunity to thank readers and all Londoners for their support. I would also encourage you to continue to enjoy what our wonderful city has to offer an array of attractions and activities which are simply too good to miss. "
