LONDON Wasps owner Steve Hayes has stepped in to support a raunchy calendar set to raise cash for our troops.

The club is sponsoring the Forces Foxes calendar, featuring wives and girlfriends of armed forces personnel.

The women had made a public appeal for help to print and distribute the calendars.

Proceeds will go to the Household Cavalry Operational Casualties Fund and Combat Street, which supports troops with psychological problems.

Mr Hayes said: “I am a massive supporter and admirer of our brilliant armed forces and I, along with everyone at Wasps, we will continue to support anything that helps them, especially an initiative which is as imaginative and courageous as this.”

Organiser Michelle Jacobs said: “We are really grateful to Steve and everyone at London Wasps.

“We know they are massive supporters of our armed forces and we cannot think of anyone more fitting to support us in our efforts.”

Miss Jacobs, who features in the calendar and whose fiancée Lance Corporal Rob Parry serves in the Household Cavalry, The Life Guards, said: “All the girls are doing this because their husbands or boyfriends are serving - they did it because they care.

“Rob lost a best mate and saw others injured during his last tour of Afghanistan. That's why we did this, so we could help the lads.”

Mr Hayes is a patron the Tickets for Troops scheme, which provides free tickets for sporting and entertainment events for armed forces personnel.

The calendar will be sold at Adams Park, home of Wasps and the Forces Foxes and Tickets for Troops websites (see links, bottom of story).

Mr Hayes has also helped stage a St George’s Day rugby match at Twickenham for the Help for Heroes forces charity.

Next year’s event sees Wasps play Bath, on April 23.
