Jose Holebas says Watford’s focus is now fully on Liverpool after his late strike salvaged a point on the road at Southampton on Saturday.

Liverpool visit Vicarage Road after the international break and will provide a stern test for Javi Gracia’s men.

Having already beaten Tottenham Hotspur and run Manchester United close at home this season, the Hornets have previous in upsetting the odds at the Vic.

Holebas, though, says Watford will not use the defeat of Spurs as inspiration and says looking back in football is always dangerous.

“We don’t have to look back [to the Spurs win], that is a mistake,” the left-back told the club website. “Last week we were unlucky at Newcastle and we lost 1-0 and today we came back to draw. Anything can happen in football.

“We just have to be focused now on our job, listen to the coach’s ideas and look forward to the next game against Liverpool.”

Failing to overcome a Southampton side languishing near the Premier League relegation zone will be seen as a disappointment for the Hornets.

Holebas’ heavily deflected strike, which arrived with eight minutes to play at St Mary’s, provided plenty of relief nonetheless and he felt the draw was a fair result.

“It is a big feeling when you know you are going to help the team with that goal,” he said. “It is always nice to score but if we do not win it doesn’t matter.

“The draw is a good result for both teams. Southampton have shown that they believed they could take three points, but I also have to give credit to us, we gave everything.

“Everyone can see that we have tried everything to win the game and in the end we were able to get the draw.

“It is a good away point for us and now we have to focus on the next game against Liverpool.”
