Judd Trump has won eight rankings tournaments and reached 17 finals since turning professional as a teenager in 2005.

However, he was knocked out of the Champion of Champions 6-1 by Kyren Wilson last week in the Group Finals, with the latter claiming he wanted the victory more than the Bristolian as he reached the final.

Fast-forward to this week and Trump is in the second round of the Northern Ireland Open, having overcome Matthew Selt 4-2, while Wilson, who faced an immediate turnaround after his exploits in the Champion of Champions, losing out in this tournament to Lee Walker.

And Trump believes he is at his most dangerous when being written off by critics.

“A lot of people expect me to do a lot better – they say it in a good way, but it comes across quite badly, I think,” said Trump.

“People are saying that Kyren is the next up and coming star, but he’s nearly my age and he’s won nowhere near what I’ve won.

“With his personality and mine, we clash a little bit and people are looking to the future… looking for rivals and us two are probably going to be that.

“I’m at the stage where, in previous seasons, people are starting to write me off – and that’s when I’m at my most dangerous.

“I’m kind of enjoying this now, no one expects me to do anything at the moment and all of a sudden, I think I’ll win one.”
