Matt Wallace will take a one-shot lead into the third round of the DP World Tour Championship after shooting a superb bogey-free 65 at Jumeirah Golf Estates.

Having birdied four of his last five holes in the first round to sit handily placed in a tie for fifth overnight, the Moor Park professional continued where he left off yesterday to equal the lowest second round score and move to the top of the leaderboard at the finale to the European Tour season.

The 28-year-old got off to a flyer with a birdie-birdie start to rapidly move to six-under and then picked up shots at the fifth and seventh to go out in a four-under-par score of 32.

Seeking his fourth victory of the year after winning the Hero Indian Open, BMW International Open and Made in Denmark, Wallace kept his foot on the throttle with a fifth birdie at the 11th before picking up consecutive shots at 13 and 14 to shoot a seven-under round and move to minus-11 for the tournament.

Wallace’s closet pursuers are Danny Willett, Jordan Smith and Adrian Otaegui, Masters champion Patrick Reed is two shots back on nine-under while Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy are in a group on minus-eight at the halfway stage.

The DP World Tour Championship sees the leading 60 available players in the Race to Dubai contest the final event of the European Tour season.
