Ben Foster has described Watford's start to the season as "average" and said that things need to get better if they are to gain promotion.

The Hornets have dropped four points in their last two matches, conceding against both Wycombe Wanderers and Bournemouth after taking the lead, to be forced to settle for a draw.

The Hornets are sat in third place in the Championship for the time being, but Foster knows that the results have not always been reflective of the performances.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Tuesday night's 1-1 draw at Adams Park, Foster was asked if there was more to come from his side.

"I bloomin' hope so," said the goalkeeper. "I'd say it's average. I think we're slightly happier with the points than the performances, to be honest here the points don't really reflect how well we've been playing, because we haven't really been playing that great at all to be perfectly honest.

Watford Observer:

"We've got a lot more ability than what we've been showing and I suppose that's a good thing, at least you know we've got a lot more to come. We've got a lot of players to come back from injury as well so hopefully we can get them back to the team and we'll start looking better."

After the match head coach Vladimir Ivic said his team's performance was "not good" and that improvements needed to be made before another tricky trip to Oakwell to face Barnsley on Saturday.

Foster's words echoed those of his boss, as he claimed there was a lot of improvement needed.

"You never ever can predict what's going to go on [in the Championship] it's so tough," he said. "You come to places like Wycombe away, they're so hard to get good results and it just goes to show. They were the better team tonight and we were looking like we were hanging on at the end.

"We didn't do anything in the first half, and even really in the second half we didn't show what we're about.

"Maybe the goal shows glimpses of what we're about, but other than that we didn't really create. Most of all, they didn't have to make many saves. This is something we need to look at and rectify."
