Beaconsfield 20
Abbotstonians 12 (Feb 9)
ABBOTSTONIANS travelled to Beaconsfield on Saturday for a friendly mid-season contest and found themselves in a tightly fought scrap, writes Allie Manser.
The home side put their initial points on the board with a try in the first 10 minutes. Abbotstonians defended well but Beaconsfield managed to break through the defence to score the try was not converted.
Abbotstonians showed good pace considering they were accommodating new players in the squad Ian Jones and the return of Tristan Griffiths who has been injured for the past year.
Key players were not involved in this match and this was evident in the pack as Andrew West stepped in to the tight and Melvin Justice took over the hookers' responsibilities.
Consistency was needed in Abbotstonians performance during the first half and errors in ball handling left them 10-0 down at half time.
A try from Abbotstonians captain James White within the first five minutes of the second half took Abbotsonians up to seven points but Beaconsfield retaliated with a try of their own. They then added a fourth try to take the spoils.
