Mark McCall is backing his Saracens charges to get back to their best despite suffering a second Champions Cup defeat to Clermont within six days.

After their home clash was rearranged for last Monday, the defending champions headed out to France but came away with the same result, their seventh successive loss in all competitions.

Not only that, but Saracens - winners of the last two Champions Cups - are now in danger of not even getting past the pool stage, with two defeats already to their name.

The five pool winners and the best three-runners up will qualify for the quarter-finals, with the Londoners likely to need victories over Ospreys and Premiership rivals Northampton Saints in their last two clashes.

But despite the dismal run of form, McCall insists the grass will soon be greener at Allianz Park.

"Just given where we were on Monday evening into Tuesday morning after the defeat and the manner of it at home and having to come here which is a pretty difficult place to come along," he said.

“We also had added injuries to the existing list after Brad (Barritt) and Richard Wigglesworth were ruled out.

“We were written off by lots of people and to come and play the way we played, we attacked the game, competed for absolutely everything and fought for everything.

“We also played good rugby as well as defending much, much better so it just felt like we were much more like ourselves today."
