Apres-ski

TWENTY-FOUR years of history is set to end with the dismantling of the borough's dry ski slope.

Plans to dismantle Hillingdon Ski Centre, Park Road, Uxbridge, were discussed at a council meeting on Tuesday (Feb 5).

Built in 1977, the slope fell into disrepair after the firm running it, Hillingdon Ski Centre Ltd, went into liquidation. Three arson attacks, two in June 2001, and the last in December 2001, have gutted the buildings on site.

Council insurer, Zurich, has put forward a sum of money to clear the site of equipment and cover it in grass. A further proposal to turn the ski slope into a grassy hill was also due to be discussed.
