NEW owners have taken over a Thai restaurant in Beaconsfield, where the standard is high with fresh ingredients and plenty of choice.

Formerly known at The Royal Elephant a team of three have taken over the premises in Warwick Road and changed the name to Yanang.

Kiattisak Dujda, Kumjad Chatiyanon and the chef Niyom Seechiangphim are hoping to keep diners coming back with a varied menu and authentic Thai cuisine. We arrived on a slightly quieter Friday night- but were told the week before both Friday and Saturday were fully booked.

The restaurant has a nice feel to it- the walls are wooden, the lighting low and there is a generally relaxed feel.

For starters I went for the Yanang Salad, (£6.95), which was recommended to me. I decided to have it with pork.

It was a great portion of salad with the freshest rocket, watercress, raddiccio and other lettuce leaves covered with slithers of marinated port.

This was covered in a spicy house dressing, which had lovely chilli flavouring and also slightly nutty. I don't usually choose salad for starters but I would definitely recommend this one. My boyfriend, Tom, went for the Chicken Satay (£4.95).

There were four sticks of the chargrilled chicken and enough sauce to go round. The peanut sauce was very good and it wasn't too rich- it was just right.

There are plenty of other options to choose from where starters are concerned from dumplings to soup.

Again there was a great choice of mains with the usual red and green Thai curries, stir fry dishes and a great selection of sea bass dishes. I went for the beef Massaman curry (£6.95).

The sauce was divine- rich and coconutty with peanuts and potatoes. This is a mild curry but still full of flavour and I recommend trying it if you haven't done already.

The beef wasn't what I was used to for a Thai curry- it seemed more to me like stewing beef- but it was still tasty and well cooked.

Tom had the deep fried sea bass in a richer mild red curry sauce (£12.95). It was a beautifully presented piece of fish, which was well cooked, and had a light batter coating. There was not too much sauce, so it seemed quite a light dish.

We had this with sticky rice (£2.50).

For dessert we shared the Thai pancake, which was a pleasant surprise and was a great finish to the meal.

We were presented with a green thick pancake, packed with sweet shredded coconut, and served with creamy vanilla ice cream.

The coconut was a bit like the inside of a Bounty chocolate bar and the pancake was well done- don't be put off by the green colouring.

The quality of the food is good, the staff are friendly and there is great choice- Yanang does Thai food extremely well.
