Paul Hewitt named Children's Champion for work in Hillingdon
THE Head of Child Safeguarding in Hillingdon has been named Children’s Champion for 2013 in recognition of his commitment to fighting child trafficking in the borough.
The award, presented by children’s rights organisation ECPAT UK, celebrates individuals and organisations who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to child protection.
Paul Hewitt played a key role in implementing safeguarding measures for children in the borough.
These included the employment of a 24/7 response service for anyone suspecting child trafficking, as well as fortnightly meetings addressing risks for unaccompanied children arriving at Heathrow.
Mr Hewitt said: "I feel privileged to win this award on behalf of all the committed professionals who have helped make Heathrow a safe port of entry for vulnerable children from all over the world.”
The award comes just as he prepares to leave the council after a distinguished 25-year career. He plans to take time out to travel around South Africa with his wife.
