AS the six-week summer holiday gets underway, keep kids amused with a range of free events throughout the week.
Here are my top five suggested items in the borough for under £5.
Monday, July 28
Are you a Harry Potter fan? Eastcote Library is giving young readers, aged 7-11, the chance to experience life as a journalist for the Quibbler or Daily Prophet. Muggles and wizards are welcome at the free event, which runs from 10-11am, and which is repeated at Charville Library on Friday, August 1, 11am.
Tuesday, July 29
As part of the Summer Reading Challenge, 7-11s can head to Ickenham Library to create their own comic strip, based on the popular Percy Jackson series. The one-hour free session starts at 3pm.
Wednesday, July 30
A landscape camera treasure hunt gets the whole family focusing. The free one-hour session takes place at Colne Valley Park Visitor Centre and encourages kids and adults to roam the country park in search of clues and a hidden treasure chest. Booking is essential on jessica.green@groundwork.org.uk or 01895 833 375.
Saturday, August 2
To commemorate the centenary of World War One, Harefield Library is running a full day of events. This includes a Harefield Village History Day, which asks locals to bring in items to do with the Great War, 9am-5pm.
Saturday, August 2
Medieval knights and costumed characters will be at Cranford Countryside’s family history day. Inter-active children’s activities, story-telling and a secret garden will also be featured, with visitors encouraged to put memories of the park on to a memory wall. The free event runs from 11am-4.30pm.
