HILLINGDON has a new first citizen after Cllr George Cooper was elected mayor at the annual council meeting on Thursday.
Cllr Cooper has been Deputy Mayor for the past year and is a ward councillor for Uxbridge North. He has lived in the borough all his life and was first elected as a councillor in 1990.
The Mayoress will be his wife, Cllr Judith Cooper, who represents Uxbridge South.
Cllr Cooper said: “It is a daunting task to follow Catherine Dann, who has discharged her duties as mayor in what can only be described as an outstandingly dignified manner."
He will take part in a huge range of activities over the next 12 months and will be working hard to raise money for his charity appeal.

Cllr John Hensley was nominated as Deputy Mayor.
