THE tube strike that was planned to take place over two 24-hour periods this week has been called off as unions extend a ‘gesture of goodwill’.
The industrial action was due to begin tomorrow as 400 UNITE members prepared to down tools at 6.30pm tomorrow, Tuesday August 25 until 6.29pm the following day.
The dispute, over working conditions on the impending Night Tube due to launch in September, has been the cause of several strikes this year but union reps now reveal they feel progress is being made in talks between LUL and workers.
Unite regional officer Hugh Roberts said: “There are still some remaining sticking points, but we feel sufficient progress has been made to suspend industrial action as an act of goodwill.
“We will continue to approach talks with London Underground in a positive manner. We trust that London Underground management seize this opportunity to reach a deal that fully addresses our members’ concerns and secures a successful future for night running on the Tube.”
