HARROW'S very own summer festival promises to be a fun-filled day bursting with samba sounds, dancers, live entertainment as well as a 1,000-strong carnival parade to start things off.

The Under One Sky cultural event attracts hundreds of people every year. Young families, pensioners and children from all over the borough make up the large crowds.

Last year's headline act, the Rishi Rich Project, drove the audience wild with bhangra beats and chart-topping music and this year promises to be much of the same with grime artist Lethal B taking over the main stage on July 8.

A Harrow-based bhangra rock group, various cultural groups and circus performers are just a few of the acts perfecting their performances for the summer event.

Watford Football Club will also be challenging people with some footie fun.

This year's festival, organised by Harrow Council and other community groups, will also highlight the dangers of young people carrying weapons and joining gangs and a separate tent called Gig in the Park, will feature budding musicians and performers spreading an anti-gang message.

Local teenager Lucie Anvenell, 14, got together with friends at Nower Hill High School and came up with the idea to promote non-violence at the event.

She said: "We need to celebrate the fact that Harrow is the safest borough in London and that most young people are not involved in criminal gangs or carry weapons."

Under One Sky will be held in the Kodak Recreation Ground, behind Zoom Leisure, Harrow View, between 12pm and 8pm.

Tickets start at £3 for adults and admission to the event is free for children under ten.
