People put themselves through their paces at a spinning session to raise cash for a special needs school's new playground.

Colnbrook School, in Hayling Road, South Oxhey, organised the four hour charity hour-long spin-a-thon at the Northwood Club.

They 80 people who took part helped raise £3,000.

Clare Diskin, the deputy chairperson of the Friends of Colnbrook charity and parent at the school said: “It’s the first time Friends of Colnbrook have done anything like this.

“We are delighted- it means the world to us to receive that sort of money at a local level.

"It makes such a difference to the children and really brings the people together.

“We had young and old, teachers and parents, fitness fanatics and even people who have never touched a bike in their lives get involved.

“There was great music and everyone joined in, it was a fantastic community event.”

The playground has suffered following government spending cuts; general wear and tear and no cash to fix it has left some parts cordoned off from the children.

Mrs Diskin, whose autistic son attends the school, added: “We need soft matting and play equipment suitable for our children with special needs.

"Without the money, the playground won’t see ten years.

“We are feeling very positive with the support were getting from sponsors and we we’re excited for things to come."
