A committed volunteer has raised tens of thousands of pounds for a disabled children’s charity through a series of fundraising events.

Stuart Miles, 42, from Rickmansworth in Chorleywood, has raised an impressive £36,070 for the young people’s charity, Whizz-Kidz over the past year.

Stuart ran the London Marathon and took the Tough Mudder challenge in 2017, before rerunning the 26.2 mile race in the capital this year.

He also arranged a golfing event.

Stuart’s passion for Whizz-Kidz started when he volunteered at his local rugby coaching club.

During Sports Week, he taught rugby to young wheelchair users at a school in Uxbridge.

Stuart said: “I remember teaching rugby to young wheelchair users and I saw one young person moving fluidly and freely in their wheelchair. I thought to myself, ‘that’s so cool!’

“I asked the young person where he got his wheelchair from and that’s when I found out about Whizz-Kidz. I knew from that moment I wanted to support the charity as much as I can.”

Since Stuart began fundraising he has had the opportunity to learn more about the personal journeys of Whizz-Kidz young ambassadors and the support they receive.

Stuart, who works in the automotive industry, added: “Meeting the young people has been incredibly eye-opening.

“Working in the automotive industry means I’m always talking about mobility.

“But seeing the work of these young people made me realise that mobility is so much more than simply getting in a car and driving – it’s about the freedom to move.”

Director of fundraising at Whizz-Kidz, Malcolm Tyndall, said: “Stuart’s involvement with the charity to date has been incredible, and the fact that he has raised over £35,000 in the past year is truly admirable.”

Stuart plans to run the London Marathon again next year, achieving his hat trick for Whizz-Kidz.

Whizz-Kids supports 2-25 year-olds by providing mobility equipment, support and life skills to help them fulfil their potential and achieve their goals.
