I read Mrs Andrews’ letter (‘Cuddly little killers’, Letters, June 15) a couple of weeks ago and I agree it is horrible to see the birds and amphibians being killed.

However, in the matter of excrement, it sounds much more likely that a fox has been the main killer of the birds. Our local cats can kill the odd animal, but the large number of foxes do the most damage particularly the excrement. The foxes are not afraid and we often see them in back gardens and walking down our road in daylight. I feel foxes are more of an problem with the local wildlife. Cats would naturally investigate any dead creature in their territory and may mistakenly be blamed for killing it.
