A HINDU family were amazed when they uncovered a sacred symbol inside an aubergine.

Naina Sodha, of Briants Close, Pinner, was chopping vegetables for an aubergine curry last night, and discovered the seeds inside an aubergine arranged into the symbol Aum.

Her son, Suraj, sent a photo of the incredible discovery to the Harrow Times.

He said: "We couldn't believe it when we saw, it was really surprising and funny.

"I'm not that religious but I knew this was one of the main religious symbols of Hinduism."

Aum is a mystical syllable of Hinduism, placed at the beginning and end of prayers and readings. It is a common symbol recognised as a representation of the religion.

This is not the first time aubergines have revealed their holy tendencies.

In 2002, a Manchester family found the word Allah across the flesh of an aubergine, and in August of the same year, a sikh from Coventry found the symbol meaning One God inside the vegetable.

The Sodhas plan to keep the sacred vegetable in their fridge to show to people.

Suraj said: "We will try to keep it as long as we can, until it starts going off."
