A SCOUT group is appealing for residents to make donations for the refurbishment of a Southall building where it holds its meetings.

Trojan Hall, which is behind Allenby Road, is in need of work, especially to the toilets and a leaking roof, which the group cannot afford to repair.

Daljit Aubby, 54, the leader of 13th Southall Scout Group, said the group lives on donations.

He said: "It's in quite a poor state. We are making do for the time being and we are doing our best to try and provide the children with opportunities.

"It's not so bad that health and safety will come and knock it down but the wooden boards are rotten and you can put your finger through the hole."

The group charges parents a fee of £20 per term, which goes to the scouting association. Some families have taken part in additional fundraising activities to generate money for repair work.

Mr Aubby, who has been working with the scouts for ten years, said: "What we are doing now is prioritising things that need doing. The toilets, the windows, the flooring.

"But there's a huge list of items that need doing. It's in a pretty bad condition."

He said despite financial problems, the group is still carrying out voluntary projects and is planning to send some of its scouts to Tanzania to help build a school.

The scouts involved are currently engaged in fundraising activities to finance the trip.
