A CLAMPDOWN on anti-social and dangerous driving in Hayes is taking place in a joint operation between Hillingdon Council and the police.

It follows complaints from residents and businesses about regular illegal car meets around Pasadena Close, near Pump Lane.

The unauthorised events draw enthusiasts and spectators but often feature drivers racing one another or doing other dangerous manoeuvres.

Hillingdon’s anti-social behaviour and environment team’s most recent joint action with the police took place in June after they were notified of a large disturbance.

They arrived to find more than 100 spectators watching drivers race and do stunts.

More than 150 motorists were stopped, resulting in one arrest for drug-driving, one arrest for driving while disqualified, four vehicle seizures for no insurance, 12 traffic offences and 21 ‘Section 59’ orders, issued for anti-social driving.

More than 30 Community Protection Warnings were issuedto attendees and the council team has sent warning letters to those identified as borough residents.

Cllr Eddie Lavery, Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, said: “Car meets like these can be a noisy disturbance for residents, as well as dangerous for other road users.”

The council’s Public Spaces Protection Order is due for renewal this week and is likely to include conditions to prohibit car meets.
