LONDON United coach Dave Schiller believes he can build a side capable of becoming national basketball champions next year.

United finished in sixth spot in the National League Division One championship and they can still win the play-offs.

Plymouth have already been confirmed as national champs this term with a separate prize going to the play-off winners.

Schiller said: "We are looking to strengthen in a couple of departments for next season so we can bring a championship winning team to London."

United finished their campaign in the top half dozen after a convincing 107-72 victory over Kingston Wildcats.

United begin their quest for the play-off title with a trip to Teeside Mohawks on Easter Sunday.

London were on fire from the tip-off against the Wildcats and roared into a 10-0 lead.

Pete Deppisch nailed five first half three-pointers and Damian Reid and Errol Seaman dominated the boards.

London's top performers in the match were Walid Mumuni with 24 points, Reid with 18 and 10 rebounds and Deppisch with 15.

Errol Seaman also took 14 rebounds and contributed 12 points.

Steve Vear picked up the fans MVP award at half time for his consistency in running the team on the point.

It was a particularly satisfying win for United, whose eight-game losing streak before Christmas began with defeat to Kingston.

Schiller said: "If not for that loss we may not have lost our confidence as quickly as we did, and we may have been placed higher in the league than sixth. Nevertheless we are happy to finish as the top club from the teams that were promoted and we believe we were a team to worry the top performers."

The win gave them a 50 per cent record over the season with 11 wins and 11 defeats in their first season in the top flight of national basketball.
