Hillingdon swimmers took the plunge to raise money for charity last weekend.

Despite many enjoying the warm weather, Hillingdon Sports & Leisure Complex Swimathon saw an impressive turnout at their Swimathon.

Participants made a splash to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care Trust.

While the swimmers will now be collecting the sponsorship money, Neil Cutting, event organiser, is hopeful there will be a fundraising record.

He said: “From the youngest to the oldest, everyone made a tremendous effort.”

Lee Shiel, who joined the 5k team at very short notice, said: “I enjoyed watching – as did my children – and participating in the 5k at short notice on the same day was a real challenge.

“Especially as I could barely swim two lengths over a year ago without stopping!”

One swimmer, Jess Luscombe, has raised £380 so far.

Another participant, Graham Hardy, said: “It was a great event and the atmosphere was brilliant.

“I have convinced my family, who were with me, to do team family entry for next year.”

Cllr Henry Higgins, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Leisure said: “Swimathon provides a great opportunity for people to give themselves a personal swimming challenge while at the same time raising money for a very worthwhile cause.

“It has also been a great opportunity to try out our fantastic pools in the borough.”
