A Hillingdon man is celebrating after scooping tickets to one of the showpiece events at the 2012 Olympics.

Tim Fuell, who works for Hayes and Yeading FC, bagged tickets to the only event he applied for – the men’s 100m final.

More than one million people applied for tickets to the event, which record-breaker Usain Bolt is favourite to win.

Mr Fuell, 36, applied for four tickets on the first day they were made available last October.

About 40,000 tickets were up for grabs for the final on August 5 next year, with prices ranging from £50 to £725.

He is now looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere of the Olympic Stadium where he will take his wife and two children.

"I was not really confident that I would get the tickets.

“There is probably more chance of being struck twice by lightning in the same day," he said.

Mr Fuell also added that he is not considering cashing in on the ‘once-in a lifetime opportunity’.

Some 1.8 million people applied for the 6.6 million public tickets available.

People who applied for multiple events and were successful will be told which events they are seeing on June 24.
