Uxbridge College students have been celebrating their GCSE results after the college achieved a 98% pass rate at grades A*-G.

In particular, grades in ICT, English Literature, Maths and Chemistry showed significant improvement on 2010 results.

Those achieving grades A*-C for ICT went up to 98% this year – a 5% increase on 2010 – while A*-C results in English Literature also saw a surge from 69% in 2010 up to 83% this year.

Bianca Chua, 17, from Ruislip achieved the highest GCSE grades at the college, with A*s in Maths and ICT and As in English Language, English Literature and Biology.

Two Polish students - 19-year-old Sandra Zielinska and Patrycia Zielinska, 18 – achieved strong results in their English GCSEs, despite being native Polish speakers.

They will now both be staying on to do A-Levels, as will Luke Joannou, 17, and Jack Gordon, 19, whose results improved considerably after re-sitting their GCSEs.

Vice Principal for Curriculum and Standards, Dr Darrell DeSouza, said: “We’ve had some exceptional individual performers with very high grades this year, as well as marked improvements in some key subjects.”

Uxbridge College students study up to five GCSEs in just one year. This enables them to improve on existing results or to sit their GSCEs for the first time.
