THE role Uxbridge will play in the Olympics next year feature in an exhibition at Brunel University.

The university’s indoor athletics centre - used by athletes such as Usain Bolt and Linford Christie - is also open for guided tours as part of the Open House weekend this Saturday and Sunday, September 17-18.

The exhibition and tours have been arranged to celebrate Brunel’s history, sporting successes and its involvement in the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Olympic bronze medal heptathlete Kelly Sotherton is a former Brunel student, and both the South Korean Olympic team and the Canadian Paralympic team will be using Brunel as their pre-Games training base in 2012.

Visitors will also have the chance to see the Cleveland Road railway cutting , a segment of the branch line built by Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel that connected Uxbridge to the Great Western Railway.

Open House weekend is from 11am-4pm both days. Brunel and the Olympics will then be open from 10am-5pm during the week until September 23.
