AS many as 17 primary and secondary schools across Hillingdon have so far confirmed they will close due to public sector strikes next Wednesday.
All day centres for people with learning disabilities will also be forced to shut due to a national day of industrial action over pensions, workload and pay.
A further 14 schools will be partially open, but the council has yet to confirm whether more schools and council services will be affected by the strikes.
Chantry Special School in Yiewsley and Douay Martyrs RC School, Ickenham, are the only two secondary schools confirmed to close so far, while Ruislip High School will remain partially open.
Among primary schools, St Catherine’s RC in West Drayton, Deanesfield in South Ruislip, Oak Farm Junior in Uxbridge and West Drayton Primary will all close for the day.
A rally and march will take place in Uxbridge town centre at noon and there will be picket lines outside public buildings on Wednesday.
More than 24 unions with three million members are expected to strike in what is expected to be the biggest day of industrial unrest since the Winter of Discontent in 1979.
