AN Uxbridge College student won joint first prize at the Association of Colleges’ Student of the Year Awards in Birmingham last week.
Sabyha Khan, 18, of Myddleton Road, Uxbridge, led the college’s successful public speaking team and in the summer achieved the grades to study Medicine at Cambridge University.
She was among many exceptional students from colleges across the UK whose remarkable personal achievements were recognised at AoC’s annual conference.
Sabyha shared first prize with 55-year-old Keith Southern, who enrolled at Mid Cheshire College 38 years after leaving school with no qualifications.
Winners of the competition, now in its fifth year, must have made a significant contribution to college life or their local community.
“I’m quite shocked at the moment – it’s a real honour and a huge award to win,” said Sabyha.
Sabyha achieved two A* and two A grades and aims to specialise in obstetrics and gynaecology.
