THREE talented children from the Hillingdon Music Service who were awarded scholarships will receive up to four years of music tuition under a new London Mayor’s initiative.
Violinist James Lynch, 10, trumpeter Charlie Young, 11, and pianist Eugene Rahbari, 10, faced competition from hundreds of students across the capital to win places on The Mayor's Fund for Young Musicians Scholarship Programme.
They were officially awarded their scholarships at City Hall by twice MOBO award-winning saxophonist YolanDa Brown last week.
The scholarships will enable them to receive instrument hire, a personal mentor, extra lessons and performance opportunities.
MYFM, launched earlier this year, works with London’s 32 borough music services and local schools to identify talented children, aged 7-11, who show outstanding potential and commitment to learning a musical instrument.
Around three scholars from each borough were selected and it is hoped this number will increase each year.
Patrons of MFYM include TV presenter Jools Holland and composer Andrew Lloyd-Webber.
