A NEW event celebrating electronic music and home-made instruments is to take place at Brunel University as part of National Science Week on March 10.
BEAM Day (Brunel Electronic and Analogue Music Day) is a free taster for the full BEAM Festival taking place at the same venue in June.
It was set up last year by Sarah Nicolls, senior lecturer in music at Brunel, who wanted to show Hillingdon audiences a selection of artists from around the world.
Sarah is a keen experimental musician herself who has even attached a Wii remote to her piano at home.
The day will include performances, demonstrations, installations and workshops using an X-BOX Kinect, old hard drives, old radios and a drum machine built from Lego.
Attendees will also be shown how to make music machines out of their own old appliances.
Those bringing their own inventions along could be in with a chance of winning a £250 Novation MIDI synth controller and free tickets to the BEAM Festival on June 22-24.
BEAM takes place from 11am-6pm at Brunel ’s Artaud Performance Centre. For more information visit http://www.beamfestival.com/beam-day-2/.
