SIXTEEN Hillingdon residents have been fined a total of £2,350 following the council’s crack down on littering.

Of the 16 summoned, 15 did not attend court and were therefore found guilty in their absence.

Danielle White, Lina Al-Haidari, Jeanette Ashling, Sarah Dias, Bonan Feng, Lala Khan, Chris Lewin, Rajan Mehra, Andre Moldovan, Chamda Narayanan, Ali Nawaz, Justin Savikas, Hassan Sheyarar, David Skinner and Subarna Thapa were all fined £150, ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge and court costs of £129.

Alan Bradshaw, of Woodrow Avenue, Hayes, pleaded guilty at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court and was fined £100, ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge and court costs of £129.

Cllr Jonathan Bianco, Cabinet Member for Finance, Property and Business Services, said: “Our residents have told us they want a tougher stance taking on littering in Hillingdon and we’ve responded.

"Discarding rubbish is completely unacceptable and demonstrates a total lack of consideration for anyone else.”

Last September, Hillingdon set up a pilot scheme to issue fixed penalty notices to people discarding rubbish in the streets.

Those caught now face a £50 fixed penalty notice, which rises to £80 if they fail to pay within two weeks, and could find themselves in court if they do not pay up.
