A YOUNG Hillingdon dancer has been specially selected by adidas to take part in its biggest ever UK campaign.

Jack Summers, from Ruislip, was flown out to Italy to appear in Blaze, an urban music dance production that travels the world.

What makes Jack’s achievement even more amazing is that he has cerebral palsy, a neurological condition that affects movement and muscle control, he is wheelchair bound.

Jack, 19, has not let his condition hold him back, however. He said: “I started dancing to show people that having a disability shouldn’t stop you doing anything you want.”

Over the last 12 months, adidas has tracked down 32 outstanding talents, aged 16-24, one from each borough of London.

A hip hop/street dancer, Jack is part of the Futinity Academy and said the particular style of dance allowed him to showcase his uniqueness.

Jack was put forward for the campaign by Rob Burton, who worked with him at Disablement Association Hillingdon (DASH).

Jack said: “All the dancers took me into the Blaze family and I think they were impressed with what I could do.

“I hope I changed many people’s perceptions that, just because I'm in a chair, it doesn’t mean I can’t live my dreams. And, on that stage for that night, I lived mine.”

He is helping DASH with an anti-bullying programme in local schools and a disability dance class at his academy, to encourage people with all forms of disability to try dance.

Looking to the future, Jack said: “My long-term ambition is to continue dancing, become a choreographer and live life to the full.”
