THE White Hat Rally is on the lookout for fund-raisers to join them in driving across Europe in aid of Barnardo’s Children’s Charity.

Meeting in Dover on September 19, participants will drive through France and Belgium, solving cryptic puzzles and challenges, before finishing in Amsterdam two days later.

Michele Daryanani, 28, of Blossom Way, Hillingdon, has been involved for four years with the White Hat Rally group, which organises non-competitive motor sports events for children’s charities.

He said: “The event itself is great fun. The challenges do take a dose of courage. In the past we've had wellie-throwing contests, sumo-suit wrestling, quad bike racing, digger driving, tyre-throwing and roller-coaster rides.”

Teams also decorate their cars around the event’s theme, which this year is “Amsterdammed: The Rise of the Dark Net”, to raise awareness of online exploitation of children.

Michele said: “Last year's theme was Pirates, so I covered a car in five litres of PVA glue and two buckets of sand to make it look like a desert island.”

He added, of this year’s decorations: “While the details haven't been set, we are thinking of taking a taller car and decorating it to look like the ramparts of a castle, gargoyles and all.”

The group is hoping to build on the campaign’s previous success. More than £45,000 was raised for Barnardo’s in 2013, but this year they’re aiming to break the £60,000 figure.

“There normally are 20 cars that take part, though this year we are aiming for 30,” Michele said.

Allan McLaren, Deputy Director of Fundraising at Barnardo’s, said: “We are once again delighted to have White Hat Rally’s support which will help make a difference to the lives of vulnerable children and young people across the UK.”
