ANNIVERSARY parties can be stressful occasions, especially when your host is a prominent government official and you arrive to find he has shot himself through the ear lobe!

So do you call an ambulance? The police? A doctor? Of course not, as the priority, above all else, is to avoid scandal!

Neil Simon’s play, Rumours, involves eight party guests building an increasingly tall and precarious tower of lies to avoid the discovery of their hosts’ predicament (and more importantly their connection to it) with hilarious results.

Among them a TV chef, a psycho-analyst, a philandering MP and his neurotic wife, a barrister and also an accountant. A strange assortment, you might say, though perfect ingredients for a riotous comedy!

Having received more Oscar and Tony award nominations than any other writer, Neil Simon remains one of America’s greatest playwrights, known for his masterly one-liners and classics such as The Odd Couple.

In its 90th anniversary season, Ruislip Dramatic Society presents a British version of Rumours at the Compass Theatre, Glebe Avenue, Ickenham, from May 14-17, 7.45pm.

Tickets are £11 or £10 concessions (available on Wed-Thurs only) from RDS on 01895 675343 or from the Compass on 01895 673200.
