THE team from St Helen’s School, Northwood, triumphed in the finals of the English Schools’ Swimming Association Primary Schools Team Championships.

They won the girls mixed stroke relay and girls freestyle relay, to be crowned overall top firls school team.

Rosie Joslin, Amirah Otulana, Zara Hills, Simi Unercat and Irena Heppard were representing London region at Sheffield on Saturday. The girls had qualified for both the 4 x 25m medley and the freestyle relays after winning the regional round at Woodside Stadium, Watford, in March.

More than 200 schools entered the competition and each region sends its fastest three relay teams in each of the two disciplines (mixed stroke and freestyle) to the finals. St Helen’s falls within London region.

“The competition was one of the most exciting and draining experiences of my life,” said Jane Hurt, head of PE at St Helen’s. “The girls were superb and I am so glad to have witnessed their huge achievement.”

All the girls are members of Hillingdon Swimming Club.
