HILLINGDON is above the national average for English and Maths in league table results from the Department for Education (DfE) for children aged 11.

Hillingdon's schools work closely with the library service to encourage children and young people in the borough to enjoy reading and literature.

Results released last week for schools in England show that 87 per cent of Hillingdon children at Key Stage 2 make at least two levels of progress in English, up from 84 per cent last year. The national average is 84 per cent.

With thousands of books, free WiFi internet access and help for studying, not to mention a range of digital media, Hillingdon's 17 libraries and a mobile facility are a great resource for children of all ages.

Councillor Henry Higgins, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Leisure said: "These results are great news for Hillingdon's children and highlight the good work of their teachers and colleagues in other services such as the council's libraries; all of whom are committed to ensuring that children get the best possible foundation in their education. I hope that children and their families support their school lessons with the additional resources of their school and local library."

Hillingdon is investing in all 17 of its libraries and is committed to providing the best facilities to Hillingdon residents.
