UNWITTING shoppers were stopped in their tracks when a flashmob of students and staff from Uxbridge College Hayes descended on the town.

The group gave a vocal and dance performance to the song Fame by Irene Cara, the theme from the 1980s television series of the same name. It followed weeks of secret rehearsals and was designed to showcase the creative courses run at the Uxbridge College Hayes campus, off Coldharbour Lane.

The campus offers a wide range of creative training including in dance, music, drama, production arts, technical skills such as sound and lighting, make-up and costume, hairdressing and beauty therapy in the Distinction salons, and catering and hospitality in Revisco restaurant. A lucky 250 spectators received a 50% discount voucher for the restaurant and salons, which are both open to the public.

Anyone who is interested can come along and see more of the facilities – including dance studios, theatre, hair and beauty salons, and training kitchen and restaurant – at Uxbridge College Hayes Open Day on March 20.

Rachel Lane, Section Manager Performing Arts at Uxbridge College, said: “Uxbridge College Hayes plays an important role in the local community, and as it’s slightly off the main road not everyone realises it has specialist top quality facilities both for teaching and for use by members of the public. We hope this event will give people a flavour of what our talented and creative young people can do given the right teaching, facilities and opportunities. Please come along and find out more at our Open Day on March 20.”
